PROGRAMMES 2022/23

We’re excited by great music, regardless of when it was written (or who it was written for). From baroque viol music, historically-informed Haydn and powerful late Beethoven to boundary pushing, genre-obliterating new commissions, we want to present all the music that we love with the same commitment, engagement and energy, connecting with audiences both established and new.

These programmes are examples of what we will be offering for 2022 and beyond. Individually curated by the quartet, they showcase our unique breadth and personality as a group, and reflect our desire to present established, core-classical repertoire alongside the best of new music being written today. For this season, we offer two new commissions from trailblazing, IVOR Award-winning composer Oliver Leith.

Exquisite early Haydn and monumental late Beethoven are embellished with timeless Bach and Oliver Leith’s woozily beautiful take on a baroque Fantasy.

Janacek’s searing late masterpiece is at the heart of a folk-tinged programme, with Ayre’s 3 Small Pieces inspired by the songs of Romanian singer Maria Tanase, a selection of which we also hear in the quartet’s own arrangements.

Award-winning British composer Oliver Leith wrote these two works of melancholic beauty especially for the Ruisi Quartet in 2020. His exploration of in the minutiae of pitch shares ideas with the groundbreaking work of Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi.
